I’m joining my first official reading challenge, because who can resist a reading adventure bingo style inspired by video-game quests? Not me!
The challenge starts on the 13th of August and ends on the 10th of September, and I’ve chosen the Mage Path because I think that’s the path I’ll manage to complete within the allotted time. I’m not going to join for the competition part, but I’m still going to keep track of my scores. For every book read you collect experience points (10 EXP per book, 5 EXP per comic/manga) and there’re health points too, like 1 HP per 10 pages, for manga/comics it’s 1 HP per 20 pages, but I think I’m just going to count the experience points.
The books you choose to read can’t be re-reads or books that you’ve started before the 13th. Below you can see the Quest Board and for more about the rules/guidelines click on the Read at Midnight link above. This is so exciting! 😊
The Quest Board
The Mages path goes through the first down path, and so my TBR are as follows (which may change a bit as the challenge progresses because I’m a hopeless mood-reader):
The first book in a series – Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
A book set in a different world – The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli
A book based on mythology – The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
A book that contains magic – Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski
A book with a one-word title – Dreadnought by April Daniels
If I have time, I may do some of the additional side quests (the blue squares in the middle). If I do, I’d like to try:
Mini-game – Monstress, vol 1 by Marjorie Lu or Saga, vol 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
Potions – Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
As I don’t have Photoshop on my computer now, I can’t do the character ID card, so I’ll do a character ID summarization below. Everyone starts with 10 EXP and Level 1 (50 EXP per level).
